The Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) will sit down with Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte to seek clarification about his alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings in his turf should he become the party’s standard-bearer in 2016.
Although the party believes in federalism, the party also believes in the inherent dignity of the human being, so [with] the right to life, respect [for] life,” PDP-Laban president Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel said at the sidelines of the party’s 33rd anniversary celebration in Manila.
Pimentel said the party needs to hear from Duterte himself if he is involved in the vigilante-style of executing suspected criminals since there are instances when politicians sometimes “intentionally perpetuate urban legends.”
While Duterte has yet to be officially proclaimed PDP-Laban’s presidential candidate for the next elections, Pimentel admitted the tough-talking mayor has very strong support among party members.
He said PDP-Laban is willing to make Duterte “the face of federalism” since the party has long been supporting calls for a shift in the form of government.
