Utos ni Cayetano! Lacson tags LRay Villafuerte behind move to give Deputy Speakers P1.5B ‘pork’
Senator Panfilo Lacson has linked Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte behind the alleged move to give all 22 Deputy Speakers P1.5 billion each under the proposed 2020 national budget.
Lacson told reporters Tuesday (September 24) that Villafuerte tried to insert the supposed pork barrel fund when he moved to withdraw the 2020 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) after it was filed on first reading last month.
The senator said House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano ordered Villafuerte to withdraw the GAB to make the alleged insertions.
“You cannot do that here (in the Senate). This is worse than what happened last year [when] the budget measure was approved on second reading during the time of [then Speaker Pantaleon] Alvarez,” Lacson said.
The senator, however, said the House has since scrapped the plan to give more than a billion pesos to each of Cayetano’s deputies.
Lacson earlier said that aside from the P1.5-billion allocation for each Deputy Speaker, every House member will have P700 million to spend next year for their pet projects.
“It did not push through, not because I mentioned it,” he said. “Even before I talked to you [on Monday], they decided not to push through with it … But I was not aware that they dropped [the plan]. I just found about it moments ago when I checked with my sources what really happened.”
The House passed the proposed P4.1-trillion national budget for 2020 on third and final reading last week.
Cayetano has maintained there are no pork barrel funds or illegal insertions under the 2020 GAB.
