Uunlad lahat! Angara: Agriculture, infrastructure dev’t key to inclusive growth
Reelectionist Senator Sonny Angara urged the government to focus on agriculture and infrastructure development in the countryside to mitigate poverty and hunger.
“The government needs to make a substantial investment in rural areas and in agriculture if it is serious about reducing poverty and hunger and promoting inclusive growth,” said Angara.
Angara said the agriculture sector is home to 60 percent of the country’s poorest population and would require a much bigger budget to strengthen support services for farmers in the form of better irrigation system, post-harvest facilities and other farm subsidies.
“Kailangang buhusan ng tulong at suporta ng pamahalaan ang mga nasa sektor ng agrikultura hindi lamang para masiguro ang sapat na suplay ng pagkain para sa lumalaki nating populasyon, kundi para rin matulungan silang makaahon sa matinding kahirapan at kagutuman,” said the senator, who is running under the platform “Alagang Angara.”
Angara said a “well-planned and well-targeted investment” in agriculture could help the country achieve inclusive growth and food security.
“Kung matutugunan ng pamahalaan ang mga pangangailangan ng mga magsasaka, makasisiguro tayong lalaki ang kanilang kita at magkakaroon tayo ng sapat na suplay ng pagkain,”
