Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco is just waiting for his turn to be the Speaker of the House of Representatives next year.
“I’m just waiting for (my time),” said Velasco in a private interview on Tuesday.
Velasco said he is confident that House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano will step down by the third quarter of 2020 to honor their gentlemen’s agreement—which President Rodrigo Duterte said there would be problems if the former Foreign Affairs secretary will not heed to it.
According to Velasco, “when the 15 months is already due, I believe Speaker Alan will step down and hand the speakership (to me).”
“I know naman for a fact na usapang lalaki,” said Velasco.
Velasco has refused to comment of the flak being received right now by Cayetano over series of blunders in connection with the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, being the chair of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC).
Velasco said he has kept silent because he does not want to “grab the limelight.”
But Velasco stressed that those involved in the mishandling of SEAG hosting should be held liable.
“We’ll just make people who are accountable, accountable,” said Velasco.
