Vico Sotto questions NBI probe over Bayanihan law violation: We complied with all directives
Facing an official probe, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is insisting on his compliance with national government’s quarantine regulations in his area of jurisdiction.
The National Bureau of Investigation has summoned the millennial politiko to to explain a possible violation of the Bayanihan law. Sotto has been asked to visit the NBI office on April 7 for allegedly disobeying the national government policies in imposing quarantines.
Sotto said he complied with all directives and merely gave an opinion on the proposed use of tricycles during the quarantine period.
“They’re asking for an ‘explanation on the alleged violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act (e.g. continuous tricycle operation).’ We complied with all directives. Hindi po illegal magbigay ng opinyon,” he tweeted.
He also questioned the NBI probe on his action that occurred before the passage of the Bayanihan law, that grants President Duterte powers to implement measures vs the coronavirus outbreak.
“At alam kaya nila na March 24 naging batas ang Bayanihan Act?” the Pasig Mayor added.
The Pasig mayor earlier allowed tricycle operators to ferry health workers in the city after public transport was suspension during the Luzon-wide lockdown. He appealed for an exemption of the tricycle drivers but the Palace reminded him to follow the national guidelines on the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon. He then decided to comply with the government’s ban on public transport.
Netizens have quickly rallied behind Sotto as he faced an NBI investigation for his action. The term #ProtectVico became one of trending topics on Twitter.

Let the working mayor do his job for his people, it was obvious he only wanted what is best for his constituents. #ProtectVicoSotto

Hindi ako nag mamarunong sa batas, pero sa opinyon ko, si Koko ang dapat ipatawag at hindi si Vico

only in the philippines where a mayor who do his/her job in a timely manner, efficient and set a high standard above asked and also one of the role model is being summoned versus a senator who put those frontliners in danger, only to asked for understanding. LMAO#ProtectVico

During a pandemic you will take the time of Mayor Vico Sotto away from his constituents just because he allowed tricycles for essential travels in Pasig?

After reading the issue about Vico Sotto, here is all that I want to say.
The national government is allergic to competent and efficient public servants, while those trapos who are deaf to their constituents and do not follow quarantine protocols get off the hook.#ProtectVico pic.twitter.com/O512Uh7APe

Here in this government, compassion is only for those incompetent public officials. How about the thinking and working leaders? Unfortunately, they only have the top trends here on Twitter.#ProtectVico

You know why #ProtectVico means so much to us? It's not just about protecting a person per se, its about protecting what he stands for in this broken system. Vico represents compassion, innovation, honesty. #ProtectVico is us putting our foot down for people doing the actual work
