Villanueva to ensure PCOO deserves every peso in 2019 budget

Senator Joel Villanueva vowed to ensure that the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) would deserve every peso it would receive for its proposed budget in 2019, amid the fallout from the viral video starring PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson which featured a lewd song-and-dance number on federalism.
“Sisiguraduhin ko po na kung piso ay masiyadong malaki sa budget nila hindi ko po sila bibigyan,” Villanueva told reporters Thursday (August 9) in a chance interview.
Asked if he would also push to give the PCOO zero budget like Akbayan party-list Rep. Tom Villarin, he said, “Sisiguraduhin ko po na kada piso na ibibigay sa kanila ay dapat masiguro nating karapatdapat sila.”
In the past, the PCOO has butchered the name of Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian and claimed that former Norwegian Ambassador Erik Forner came from Norwegia.
These, including the video showing Uson’s co-host Drew Olivar singing a vulgar jingle on federalism while lewdly gesturing, have left senators vowing that they would scrutinize the PCOO’s budget, which is seen to increase by P100 million to P1.5 billion next year.
“Sa naririnig ko po sa aking mga kasamahan sa Senado hindi kami papayag na basta na lang palusutin ang mga ahensya ng pamahalaan, ‘di natin isi-single out, it’s just that they’re so horrible na they are sticking out, itong PCOO,” Villanueva said.
“Kung ito po ay magpapatuloy sa ganitong pacing, sa ganitong klase ng pagbibigay ng impormasyon na kung saan ay ina-underestimate, iniinsulto ang intelligence ng ating mga kababayan, eh kami pong mga representative ng taumbayan should do something about it,” he said.
