Villarin calls for Aguirre’s resignation. Here’s why

Resign now if you can’t do your job.

That was Akbayan party-list Rep. Tom Villarin’s message to Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II Tuesday (February 7) during a press conference.

“If we have a Justice Secretary na hindi kaya magbigay ng hustisya, magbitaw na siya,” the “Magnificent 7” member said.

“Problema natin, lahat ay kid glove treatment, pero pagdating sa opposition like Senator De Lima, nag all-out siya,” Villarin said, referring to Senator Leila de Lima who is a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte.

De Lima, however, is part of the Senate Majority, being a Liberal Party (LP) stalwart.

Villarin, an opposition congressman, also hit Aguirre for his less than enthusiastic response to the bribery scandal at the Bureau of Immigration (BI), which happens to involve the latter’s fraternity brods.

“Pero sa kanyang mga brad-mates walang kahatungan yung ginawa nilang investigation,” he noted.

“If he can’t do his job, mag resign na siya,” stressed Villarin.
