Wag mag-panic: Groceries, ATMs to stay open during MECQ — Mayor Vico Sotto

No need to panic.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has appealed to the public to avoid panic buying in groceries and withdrawing funds from automated teller machines.

Sotto said supermarkets and banks are expected to continue operations despite the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) imposed in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The millennial politiko made the appeal after seeing long lines of people at the groceries and ATM units.

“Mahaba ang mga pila sa mga ATM, grocery kaninang umaga. Panic-withdrawing/buying. Iwasan muna natin ang mga to ngayon,” he tweeted.

“Hindi sila magsasara pag MECQ. While we are still clarifying the guidelines with national agencies, we can be sure that ATMs groceries will still be open,” he said.

President Duterte has agreed to return Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Cavite back to MECQ after the country’s health sector appealed for a timeout. The health frontliners called for tougher measures to control the coronavirus infections as the country’s healthcare system is supposedly on the brink of collapse.
