The activists who rally in the streets to protest the government’s policies are the same people that soldiers hunt for in the mountains for allegedly being communists, Senator Bong Go said Wednesday (August 14).
Go made the claim during the Senate joint committee hearing on the alleged recruitment of students by leftist groups.
“‘Yung mga nakikita ko nagra-rally sa daan, sila rin yung nasa bundok. ‘Wag tayo magkunwari,” he said.
“Base lang po sa aking experience, alam naman natin na halos lahat ng nasa taas na sinasabi niyo nasa eskwelahan, kadalasan aktibista at nasa daan nagra-rally,” Go added.
The senator said he was familiar with how communists living in the mountains looked like since he used to accompany then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte there to rescue hostages.
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, chair of the Senate Committees on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs which led the hearing, mentioned Anakbayan, League of Filipino Students, Gabriela Youth and Kabataan Party-list as some of the leftist groups that allegedly recruit students.
