President Rodrigo Duterte has directed the Department of Health (DOH) to distribute face masks to residents of areas affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano.
“Duterte has instructed government agencies to ensure that those affected by the eruption will be given assistance. He has also ordered the DOH to provide face masks especially to those who are in the affected areas,” said Communications Secretary Martin Andanar in a statement Monday.
Due to the demand brought by the calamity, Andanar reminded establishments against increasing the prices of face masks.
“Penalties will be imposed to the fullest extent of the law for those who do not follow. This applies as well to the pricing of manufactured basic necessities and prime commodities,” according to him.
Andanar said the Presidential Communications Operations Office will continue to coordinate with relevant government agencies to update the public of the situation on the volcano’s unrest.
“Our office has also activated Laging Handa operations to provide the public integrated information on the latest developments and advisories through government media,” he also said.
