President Rodrigo Duterte has set the record straight on what he was actually doing at home when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Davao City.

“Natutulog ako — hindi ako nagpapatawa ha. Natutulog ako tapos gumaganun na ‘yung bahay. Eh di natulog lang ako sabi ko ‘ah wala man ‘to’.

Davao since we migrated there many, many years ago, I have experienced ‘yung mga ganun, wala man.

Duterte’s first hand account contradicts Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo’s version of the event.

Panelo, who probably wanted to deflect criticisms that Duterte looked
like he was unconcerned about the impact of the massive quake.

“When the quake hit Davao, the president was having his hair cut. That’s what the first lady said,” said Panelo who claimed Duterte was at home together with his youngest daughter “Kitty” whose mother, the president’s common-law partner Honeylet Avancena, was on her way home.
