Wag n’yong asahang babalik pa si Joma! Duterte offers to help NPAs to run for mayor
President Rodrigo Duterte is urging New Peoples Army (NPA) leaders to give up their half a century armed struggle and run for elective posts instead with his help.
Duterte said it was futile to wait for their leader, Communist Party of the Philippines founder Joma Sison, to come home because he was enjoying too much his life in exile for more than 30 years.
“Let’s just talk instead. Why wait for Sison to come? He will never go home anyway.Follow me instead and I could make you mayors,” said Duterte in a speech in Agusan del Norte.
“That’s true. In the next elections, it will be called the Kapisanan ng mga Pilipinong Komunista. You can make it a political party. Make it legal,” he added.
Duterte officially ended the peace talks by terminating a government panel tasked to hold peace talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines last March 2019. Duterte has opted to hold localized peace talks instead.
Duterte was fed up with the NPA’s continued attacks on the military and extortion activities.
Duterte believes that NPAs were for “principles and not for their pockets” that’s why he remains open to talking peace at the local level.
“I’m the only friend that you have and you know it… We are friends. I am friends with the NPA. They know that they won’t get anything if they kill me. For what?” said Duterte.
