‘Wag pabayaan ang matatanda: Revilla wants elderly care institutionalized
By Shane Juan
Senator Bong Revilla has filed a measure to institutionalize elderly care to ease the burden of poor families who are unable to provide care and support their ageing loved ones.
Revilla’s bill seeks to establish a nursing complex for senior citizens in every local government units (LGUs) throughout the Philippines.
“The government has to step in to ensure that the country’s elderly, especially those from the marginalized sector will be provided with 24-hour professional health care in facilities which will serve as their second home,” he said.
Under Revilla’s proposal, Filipino seniors aged 60 and above can be enrolled in the nursing complex and they will be looked after by trained personnel from the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
An initial budget of P50 million will be allocated for the construction of elderly care homes should the bill be passed into law.
