Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against fake immigration officers.
“Do not fall prey to these predators,” said Morente in a statement.
The BI chief made the warning after receiving a complaint from an OFW who fell victim to a fake immigration officer.
“They are sweet-talkers that will entice you to attempt to work illegally, but we have already measures in place to prevent that from happening,” Morente assured.
“Report any fixing and extortion attempts to the police to make sure that they are arrested and they are prevented from victimizing other people again,” he urged.
Morente said the complaint came from a female OFW who wanted to go to Dubai under a tourist visa but got intercepted at the airport.
According to the complainant, she was approached by the suspect who claimed to be an immigration officer and offered to escort her for a fee.
