Wala akong kita dyan: Baraan denies taking money for transfer of NBP inmates

Former Justice Undersecretary Francisco Baraan III has denied taking money to allow the transfer of inmates from the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) as claimed by convicted drug trafficker Herbert “Ampang” Colanggo.

“Colangco’s claim is a complete nonsense. I challenge him to produce any document that shows I approved any transfer of inmate/s within the Bilibid compound,” he said in a statement.

Although his former office had administrative supervision of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), Baraan insisted that in such transfers, “the Bucor Director would decide alone, and would not formally seek the approval of the Office of the Secretary.”

“Any Bucor Director can also attest to this. We did not even know who were transferred and where, when, why were the transfers made,” he claimed.

Colanggo gave his testimony last Tuesday (September 20) at the House of Representatives probe on the proliferation of drug activities at the Bilibid.

Baraan and Senator Leila de Lima were earlier named by President Rodrigo Duterte as being involved in the drug activities there.
