Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said he has not yet received any communication from United States officials about the reported cancellation of his visa.
“No official communication from US authorities yet,” Dela Rosa told Politiko Saturday (December 14).
Politiko reported that the US had cancelled Dela Rosa’s visa since May 2019.
US officials had cited the Asia Reassurance Initiative Act (ARIA) as basis for the cancellation of the senator’s visa.
Politiko’s source said Dela Rosa’s visa was cancelled over his alleged involvement in the supposed extrajudicial killings of drug suspects when he was chief of the Philippine National Police.
ARIA allows the US to provide $1.5 billion in security assistance to its allies in the Indo-Pacific region on the basis of promoting democracy, human rights and rule of law.
