Senator Grace Poe is happy and thankful to President Duterte for signing a law which simplified the adoption process in the Philippines.
Poe authored the measure which is now known as Republic Act 11222 or the Simulated Birth Rectification Act.
Under the new law, prospective parents do not have to undergo a lengthy judicial process in adopting a child.
Poe said “We thank President Duterte for having the heart for children in need of families and for seeing this measure through.”
In a statement, Poe said the long, tedious, and sometimes heart-wrenching journey for adoptive parents and adoptees is now over.
She said “This will remove the stigma of the “ampon lang” mentality because it reinforces that adoption is right and legal and life-changing.
Poe added “Marami pang batang nangangailangan ng pagmamahal at kalinga ang maisasalba ng batas na ito.”
Senator Grace is an adopted daughter of the late Fernando Poe, Junior (FPJ) and Susan Roces.
Poe expressed hope that many children will experience a good family life , like she did.
She said “My parents gave me this meaningful life and I hope that many children will experience it, too, with their new families.
