President Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement will play a big role in determining the winner of the 2022 presidential race, bilyonaryo Ramon Ang said Sunday (April 18).
Ang, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), said the presidential race is still “wide open” six months before the deadline of filing of certificates of candidacy.
“(Presidential Spokesperson) Harry Roque said that, in the event Davao Mayor Sara Duterte and Senator Bong Go do not run in 2022, President Duterte will choose among Mayor Isko Moreno, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, and Senator Manny Pacquiao,” Ang said.
“I believe that the president’s endorsement is still the key factor to victory, given his outstanding trust rating. As such, the situation can change dramatically, depending on Mayor Sara Duterte and Senator Bong Go’s decision, coupled with the strength of President Duterte’s endorsement,” the tycoon added.
Ang reiterated that he is not endorsing Pacquiao for president, contrary to what appeared in some reports following his roundtable discussion with some journalists.
“I was told that some people believe that I am endorsing Manny Pacquiao’s candidacy. That is certainly not the case,” he said.
Mayor Duterte has been the candidate to beat for president based on results of recent surveys. However, the presidential daughter has repeatedly said she will not seek the presidency in 2022.
Go, meanwhile, has said that he will only consider running for president if Duterte agrees to be his running mate next year.
