Walang isang salita! Alan Cayetano backed Zamoras despite Duterte’s push for mining reform
Will Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano fight for President Rodrigo Duterte’s interests if he becomes the next House Speaker?
Abogados Trixie Cruz-Angeles and Ahmed Paglinawan doubt Cayetano’s loyalty.
Writing on their Facebook page Luminous, Cruz-Angeles and Paglinawan noted that Cayetano had been accused of going against the President’s interests when he was a senator.
In May 2017, former Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez accused Cayetano of opposing her nomination before the Commission on Appointments (CA) due to his closeness to the brothers Manuel and Ronaldo Zamora.
Lopez said Cayetano voted against her confirmation as Secretary because he received campaign funds from the Zamoras, who has interests in mining.
Manuel Zamora is the president of Nickel Asia, the largest nickel company in the Philippines.
Ronaldo Zamora, meanwhile, is the congressional representative of San Juan City.
Cruz-Angeles and Paglinawan said Cayetano’s opposition to Lopez’s confirmation showed he’ willing to defy Duterte since amendments to the Mining Acts was one of the President’s priorities.
Lopez had cracked down on mining companies which violated environmental laws before she was replaced by Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu.
