Walang pake! Disaster relief chief goes on vacation amid Habagat

By Xave Gregorio

While Metro Manila and surrounding provinces experienced heavy beatings from the southwest monsoon or Habagat, President Rodrigo Duterte’s relief chief Nicanor Faeldon went on vacation with his family.

In a Facebook post, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) chief Faeldon posted photos from his family’s “weekend trip” to their province, Oriental Mindoro.

“Kahit maalon weekend trip pa rin to our province (Oriental Mindoro),” Faeldon said in an August 11 post.

The OCD is the implementing arm of the National Risk Reduction and Management Council formed in the wake of the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ondoy in 2009 which left Metro Manila and other provinces under waters reaching as high as two storeys.

His and President Rodrigo Duterte’s being missing in action as flood sank parts of Metro Manila and other provinces in Luzon and the national weather bureau hoisted heavy rainfall warnings received flak online.

“grabe namang nga opisyales etech. Wala talagang SentiDo Common Minsan ang nasa GOBYERNO. May Paratig na Bagyo… Happy trip ang Inuna. Susmiyo,” said Facebook user ReThinking Pinoy on Faeldon’s post.

Meanwhile, Twitter user @jomigz2010 said, “Faeldon creates disasters and havocs everywhere he is assigned. May balat sa pwet.?!?!?! Hindi pa ba pansin ni [President Rodrigo Duterte.] I-validate nga nyo. Ilipat nyo ulit sa ibang agency and observe if such trend persist???”

Faeldon was appointed as OCD chief while in detention in the Senate over a contempt charge due to his refusal to cooperate with the Blue Ribbon committee, which was then probing the P6.4 billion shabu shipment, where he is implicated in.
