The European Union (EU) has no right to dictate how the Philippines manages its domestic affairs, according to Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo.
In his program Counterpoint aired over state-run PTV 4 Friday, Panelo said the EU must cease from interfering with the country’s internal politics.
“No country can interfere, can intrude into the affairs of this country. Hindi sila dapat nakikialam,” he said, reacting to a resolution adopted by members of the European Parliament last September 17 condemning the continued deterioration of the human rights situation in the country.
The Philippines, according to Panelo, observes due process in respect to the country’s Constitution.
“Meron tayong Constitution, meron tayong batas, merong tayong rule of law, meron tayong due process at hayaan nila tayo rito. Sila’y mag-concetrate doon sa kanilang mga problema sa kani-kanilang bansa,” he said.
“Yung mga binabanggit nila yun naman galing sa mga critics at detractors na pinalalaki yung maliit, yung wala binibigyan ng buhay. Yan ang problema,” he added.
