Malacañang suspended work in government offices and classes in all levels in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon today, January 13 due to the ash explosion of Taal Volcano.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by the authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, announced the class and work suspensions around midnight in areas affected by the ash “except frontline response agencies involved in disaster response, delivery of basic and health service, and/or other vital services.”

Medialdea also said the private sector is “highly encouraged” to suspend work for the safety of their employees.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised alert level 4 over the volcano Sunday night, which means a hazardous explosion is possible within hours or days.

The Palace earlier said Duterte instructed concerned government agencies “to undertake measures necessary to place the people within the perimeter of Taal out of the danger zone.”

The government also urged the public to “continue to remain vigilant.”
