Walang plus-minus sa survey! Bong Go questions SWS methodology after Duterte’s satisfaction rating drops
Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go has questioned the survey methodology used by Social Weather Stations (SWS) after its latest poll showed President Rodrigo Duterte’s net satisfaction rating down by 11 points.
Go on Thursday (July 12) said the percentage of survey respondents dissatisfied with Duterte’s performance should not be subtracted from the percentage of those who are happy with him.
“Tinatanong dito kung ilan ba ang nasisiyahan. Ibig kong sabihin kung 65 percent [ang] satisfied, 35 ang ayaw, hindi pupuwedeng i-minus ‘yon sa negative na ayaw,” he said in a radio interview.
The SWS survey conducted from June 27 to 30 showed Duterte’s satisfaction rating dropped to a “good” +45 from a “very good” +56 in March.
SWS computed the current rating by subtracting the 20 percent of Filipinos dissatisfied with his performance from the 65 percent who were dissatisfied.
For Go, the results of another survey where Duterte got an +87 trust rating is more believable.
“Tingnan mo rin ‘yong ibang survey firm na meron s’yang 87 (percent) trust rating. So higit walo pa ang nainiwala sa kanya out of sampung Pilipino so that’s a big majority,” Go said.
Go’s comment came on the heels of the results of the survey firm’s June 27-30, 2018 second quarter survey that showed Duterte’s net satisfaction rating at +45, which was the result of subtracting the 20 percent of Filipinos dissatisfied with his performance from 65 percent of them who were satisfied.
The same poll last June also showed that Duterte’s net satisfaction rating was 11 percent points lower than his 56 percent net satisfaction rating in March 2018.
“So tingnan mo rin ‘yong ibang survey firm na meron s’yang 87 (percent) trust rating. So higit walo pa ang nainiwala sa kanya out of sampung Pilipino so that’s a big majority,” Go said, without identifying the firm that conducted the survey.
