President Rodrigo Duterte revealed Monday (December 30) that he slept through the magnitude 6.9 earthquake which struck parts of Mindanao earlier this month.
In a speech before earthquake victims in M’lang, North Cotabato, Duterte shared how he remained calm even when his nurse and members of the Presidential Security Group were urging him to leave his bed and evacuate.
The President said he refused to budge even when his nurse, Imae, acted as if to carry him out of bed.
Duterte said he’s used to experiencing strong earthquakes since his family relocated to Davao when he was a child.
He joked that he wouldn’t mind if he’s killed by falling debris during an earthquake.
