The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is set to screen the applicants from whom President Rodrigo Duterte will choose the next associate justice of the Supreme Court (SC).

The JBC announced that it will conduct the interview of the applicants this November 16, 2016.

There are 14 applicants vying for the position including members of the Court of Appeals (CA), namely, Presiding Justice Andres Reyes and Justices Noel Tijam, Rosmari Carandang, Jose Reyes , Stephen Cruz, Apolinario Bruselas, and Japar Dimaampao.

Other applicants include Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) head Persida Acosta, lawyer Rita Jimeno, Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Rowena Adlawan, Quezon City RTC Judge Reynaldo Daway, Department of Justice (DOJ) Chief State Counsel Ricardo Paras, and Sandiganbayan Jutices Samuel Martires and Alex Quiroz.

Whoever will be picked will fill in the seat that will be vacated by SC Justice Jose Perez, who will retire on December 14, 2016.
