President Rodrigo Duterte is holding back on attacking Vice President Leni Robredo until the 2022 elections, when he expects her to run for president.
Duterte warned Tuesday (November 17) he will destroy Robredo if she seeks higher office.
“During the campaign… Paalis na ako. Sige, subukan mo. Matagal na talaga akong maraming sabihin sa iyo pero ireserba ko na lang,” he said in a televised briefing.
“When you start your campaign kung magtakbo ka ng presidente, waswasan (wahasakin) kita nang husto. Well, this is your bad — this is your nightmare. Sabi ko pagka-incompetent mo,” Duterte added.
As head of the Liberal Party (LP), Robredo is touted as the opposition’s potential 2022 presidential bet. She, however, has been coy about her political plans, saying the presidency is destiny.
Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, is also considered a possible presidential contender. She formed her own political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, ahead of the 2019 elections.
The President warned Robredo that she should not make the “mistake” of playing up her work to the media.
“So next time, do not commit the mistake or I’ll be forced to insult you because you are playing too much, Nagpagpa-beauty ka ng ano. It’s not the time for you,” Duterte said.
