The Department of Justice (DOJ) will not be used to persecute the critics and enemies of President Rodrigo Duterte, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured on Friday (July 19).

The Secretary made the assurance after a criminal complaint was filed against Vice President Leni Robredo and other members of the opposition concerning their liability in the “Ang Totoong Narcolist” videos.

“The DOJ is not a weapon for oppression or persecution,” Guevarra told reporters.

Guevarra said the DOJ will conduct the preliminary investigation of the complaint based on evidence that will be presented.

“We shall go only by the evidence presented before us and we don’t care who gets indicted and who goes scotfree,” he stated.

“But once probable cause is determined and a criminal case is filed in court, the DOJ will exert the full force of the law to secure a conviction,” he added.
