President Rodrigo Duterte appointed former Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), Malacañang announced.
“We confirm that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed the appointment of Mr. Mark Lapid as Member, Board of Directors, TIEZA on January 5, 2021,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement Saturday evening.
This is not his first appointment to the agency.
During the Arroyo administration, the son of Senator Lito Lapid served as acting general manager of the Philippine Tourism Authority. He was then reappointed by former President Benigno Aquino III as Chief Executive Officer in 2014.
“Tourism is one of the most important sectors of our economy, and the appointment of Mr. Lapid, who is no stranger to TIEZA, augurs well in contributing to the recovery and growth of tourism, which has been affected by the pandemic. Welcome back to TIEZA, Mr. Lapid,” said Roque.
