Solicitor General Jose Calida is overjoyed that the woman who helped him oust Maria Lourdes Sereno as Chief Justice will finally lead the judiciary.
Calida on Saturday (August 25) welcomed the appointment of Supreme Court Associate Justice Teresita De Castro as Chief Justice.
“The OSG family and I rejoice in the well-deserved appointment of Justice Teresita L. De Castro as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. We are elated because her legal brilliance, competence, fairness and integrity ensure that justice will be well-served during her tenure,” he said in a statement.
It was Calida who jumpstarted the move for the Supreme Court to oust Sereno by filing a quo warranto petition against her.
The petition sought to invalidate Sereno’s appointment as Chief Justice.
In May, De Castro and seven other magistrates voted to grant the quo warranto petition against Sereno.
De Castro has less than two months left to serve as Chief Justice because she will retire on October 8.
