The country’s loss is America’s gain.

Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay is dismayed with the state of Philippine sports following the latest victory of Filipino-American chess grandmaster Wesley So.

So, born in Cavite but later moved to the US, represented the United States, not the Philippines, in winning the first World Fisher Random Chess Championship.

“Wesley So represents what the Philippines has to offer to the world. Imagine the potential and the possibilities,” he tweeted.

“The story of why he doesn’t carry the Philippine flag is the tragedy that is Philippine sports, corrupted by politics,” he said.
