Whose God is stupid? Duterte to have one-on-one meeting with CBCP president
President Rodrigo Duterte will have a one-on-one dialogue with Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines president Archbishop Romulo Valles following his controversial statements about God, Malacañang said Saturday (June 30).
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the meeting between Duterte and Valles was agreed when he met with Papal Nuncio Gabriel Giordano Caccia Friday (June 29).
During the meeting, Roque said “it was agreed that both State and Church should work together for the benefit of the people.”
“The Papal Nuncio also welcomes further meetings with PRRD (Duterte’s initials),” he added.
Duterte skipped the meeting with Caccia despite an invitation because he visited the wake of the cops slain in a misencounter with the Army in Samar.
The President drew flak for calling God “stupid” and questioning the account of creation and original sin in the Bible.
He later clarified that his God was perfect, though other people’s God is stupid.
Nevertheless, Duterte formed a four-man committee to conduct a dialogue with religious groups following his controversial statement.
