Why Duterte wasn’t initially impressed by Mark Villar

In his message to the newly appointed officials, President Rodrigo Duterte revealed Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar did not impress him at first.

“Basta ako sinasabi nilang kumpleto na ‘yung ano. And this is not a brief for Villar pero mahusay si Villar. Mahusay si Villar. Hindi ako masyado noon nung una pero ‘yung nagtrabaho na,” Duterte said Tuesday evening.

The Chief Executive gave Villar, son of the real estate tycoon Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, high praises for being “hardworking” and incorruptible.

“At ang sabi ko nga ito si Villar, noong first days akala ko… Medyo ako — kasi anak ng politiko. But si Villar, ma’am, is a hardworking. Tsaka pumupunta talaga — pumupunta siya doon, governor? Ano talaga, mahusay siya at saka wala masyadong corruption,” he added.

Duterte also hoped that the secretary of the Department of Public Works and would still serve government even after his administration.
