Will Leni be Mar’s VP? Palace says wait until Wednesday

Malacanang has remained tight-lipped whether Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo would be the running mate of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Saturday it would be better to wait for the decision of LP politikos during their scheduled convention on Wednesday (September 30).

“Hintayin na lang po natin siguro ang magiging anunsyo doon sa convention po nila sa Wednesday,” Mahirap naman po silang pangunahan,” said Valte on state-run dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.

Senate President Franklin Drilon earlier said Roxas’ running mate and the LP senatorial line up would be announced during their scheduled party convention on September 30.

Drilon, vice chair of LP, said the party agreed to hold the convention to formally finalize their ticket for the 2016 election.

Roxas has been persistently wooing Robredo to become his running mate after neophyte Senator Grace Poe turned him down and decided to run for the presidency.

Robredo, however, remained reluctant citing lack of experience in politics and opposition of her three daughters.

Aside from Robredo, the LP is also considering Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano to run alongside Roxas.

Cayetano earlier admitted receiving feelers from LP saying that he was open to the possibility of running for the second highest post in the land.

Aside from Drilon, among the politikos expected to be included in the LP senatorial ticket are Ralph Recto, Teofistino Guingona, and former Senator Francis Pangilinan. Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino are rumored to be in the list.

Filipino boxer and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, who is a vocal supporter of opposition leader Vice President Jejomar Binay, is also reportedly part of the LP senatorial list.
