Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has expressed frustration with the Department of Health (DOH) for its snail-paced accreditation of testing centers for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) despite the nationwide outbreak.

Gatchalian did not hide his dismay with DOH after reading an online article about its decision to defer the approval for Marikina City’s COVID-19 molecular laboratory.

“Sorry to say this, but it’s not the virus that will kill us. It’s red tape & the lack of sense of urgency that will kill us. Ang tagal i-acredit ng DOH ang mga testing centers at importation of kits. We need to move around the clock. Maraming magugutom pag hindi natin mahinto ito,” the senator tweeted.

Gatchalian’s tweet was accompanied with a link to an online article about Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro’s frustration about the delay in the city’s plan to test suspected COVID-19 cases.

DOH said Marikina has to meet certain requirements before it can operate its molecular laboratory.
