World-class utang: Cayetano mum over P11B loan for SEAG hosting
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has refused to comment over the reported P11-billion loan deal for the hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) which will start next week.
Senate Minority Floor Leader Franklin Drilon in an interview with the ABS-CBN News Channel stressed that the national government has engaged with a Malaysian firm for an P11-billion loan contract that was used for the construction of the New Clark City Sports Hub in Capaz, Tarlac.
According to Cayetano, the multi-billion loan for SEAG is not an issue but he refused to give furthers details on the matter.
The House leader instead pinpointed the Bases Conversion Development Authority as the appropriate office that will answer any questions over the multi-billion loan.
“Ang BCDA makakapagpaliwanag pero whether binayaran na natin or inutang, walang isyu ‘yan, and aside from walang isyu ‘yan. It’s world class, nagawa ng 18 months, by very good architect and you know, everyone who sees it says, dapat sa lahat ng region mayroon tayo nun,” said Cayetano.
BCDA is headed by Presidential Adviser for Flagship Programs and Projects Vince Dizon. Dizon previously served as Cayetano’s chief political officer during his 12-year stint in the Senate.
Meanwhile, Cayetano said he’s willing to be a subject of any investigation right after the upcoming bi-annual sporting event to prove that there’s no irregularities in the country’s hosting of the 2019 SEAG.
“After this, haharap ako sa lahat ng imbestigasyon. Sa lahat ng inquiries, formal or informal,” said Cayetano.
