Yasay eyes Ed Angara as PH’s envoy to US— report
Former senator Edgardo Angara could soon make a comeback in government as the Philippine Ambassador to the United States, according to a Manila Bulletin report published Saturday (August 27).
Angara is among the three individuals recommended by Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. to hold the plum diplomatic post following the resignation of Jose Cuisia Jr., whom President Rodrigo Duterte wanted to retain.
Aside from the former senator, Yasay is also pushing for the appointment of businessman Ricardo Delgado and DFA Undersecretary for Policy Enrique Manalo as ambassador to the US.
Also reportedly in the running for the post— though not recommended by Yasay— is retired Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr.
Paynor served as protocol chief to former Presidents Fidel Ramos, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and even Duterte.
