GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental – The family of former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. has endorsed the senatorial candidates backed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party.

Guingona’s wife, Gingoog City Mayor Ruth De Lara Guingona and her daughter, Vice Mayor Marie Guingona on Friday hosted HNP’s proclamation rally inside the A.S. Lugod Gymnasium.

The event was attended by eight Hugpong candidates including Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, daughter of late dictator and former President Ferdinand Marcos.

A former human rights lawyer, the Guingona patriarch was jailed twice during the Marcos regime.

The Guingonas prior to the 2016 polls were well-known members of the once powerful Liberal Party (LP) especially the former Vice President’s eldest son and namesake, former Sen. Teofisto ‘TG’ Guingona III.

After the election President Rodrigo Duterte, Mayor Ruth and Vice Mayor Marie dropped the ‘yellow brand’ and joined the administration-allied Nacionalista Party (NP).

The two officials will switch place if elected both this coming May.
