The Supreme Court (SC) was asked on Monday (Sept. 23) to order the military to release Quezon youth activist Alexandrea Pacalda.

The family of Pacalda filed before the high court a petition seeking for the issuance of a writ of habeas corpus against

In their petition, the family told the SC that “Alexandrea Pacalda is being held and detained by the 201st Brigade in Calauag, Quezon, without charges and legal basis September 14, 2019.”

“In the process, she is being subjected to interrogation without the assistance of a competent counsel of her own choice,” the family lamented.

“Her illegal detention resulted in the continuous and blatant violation of her constitutional rights,” they added.

The family said its members and Alexandrea, a volunteer of the Pinag-isang Lakas ng Magsasaka sa Quezon (PIGLAS-Quezon), were coerced into signing documents admitting that she surrendered as a member of the New People’s Army (NPA).
