Zaldy Ampatuan still in hospital
Former Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) governor Zaldy Ampatuan remains at the Makati Medical Center since suffering a stroke on October 22.
“Respectfully be informed that aforesaid PDL (person deprived of liberty) is still confined at the Makati Medical Center as previously informed thry letter before the Honorable Court dated 22 October 2019,” said the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in its letter addressed to Quezon City Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes.
The BJMP informed the judge Ampatuan had already transferred to a aregular room last October 29 afater having stayed at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Ampatuan is facing 58 counts of murder before the court in connection with the 2009 Maguindanao massacre.
On November 23, 2009, 58 persons including 32 members of the media were killed in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
Those killed were part of the convoy of then Buluan town vice mayor Esmael Mangudadatu which was on its way for the filing of a certificate of candidacy for the gubernatorial race of Maguindanao.
Among the 197 suspects, the principal accused include late Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. and his two sons, namely, Zaldy Ampatuan and former Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr.
