Zambales Rep. Cheryl Deloso-Montalla said on Sunday she hopes more women lawmakers will try to gun for the speakership of the House after the May midterm elections.

“Walang masama. And I hope meron din tayong women lawmakers who will vie for the position,” said Deloso-Montalla.

She said in a statement that she has high regard for former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who became the country’s first woman Speaker last year after a coup against then Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

Arroyo is on her third and final term as Pampanga representative.

“I have high regard for our Speaker, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo,” Deloso-Montalla said.

“She’s workaholic, when I say workaholic, in a short span of time, ang dami naming na-passed na laws dahil tinututukan niya kaming lahat and makes sure we do our job,” she added.

What she likes about the former President, according to Deloso-Montalla, is her dedication and sense of responsibility.

“Ang gusto ko kay SGMA, pag may responsibility ka, you really have to do your job. Be a responsible lawmaker. Naiinis siya pag di ginawa ung trabaho, which I really admire,” she said.

“Kasi yun talaga ang leader na kailangan natin. Sayang nga lang at maikling panahon lang. How I wish mahaba-haba ang panahon na naging Speaker siya,” she sad.

“She is very generous and takes care of the Members of Congress,” said Deloso-Montalla.
