Zamboanga taps US firm to become Asia’s welding training center
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The government-run Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) aims to become the welding training center for Asia, said its president, Dr. Nelson Cabral.
Cabra said Thursday ZCSPC and the Lincoln Electric Southeast Asia would sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to establish a welding training center at the school.
Lincoln Electric Southeast Asia is an American multinational and a global manufacturer of welding products, arc welding equipment, welding consumables, plasma and oxy-fuel cutting equipment and robotic welding systems, the ZCSPC president said.
Cabral said Lincoln Electric would provide the equipment for the training center, while ZCSPC would allocate P10 million for the opening of the training center, including the training of its faculty by Lincoln Electric in Singapore.
The welding training center will cater to students who will study in specialize field such as ship and industrial arc welding, among others, he said. He added that the graduates of the welding training center can be employed abroad as the teaching instruction is of international standard.
Cabral sexpects students from other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, and others to enroll at the training center for welding.
ZCSPC, aims to become the top polytechnic school in Mindanao as it continues to upgrade its academic offerings and provide effective and efficient services through advanced technological studies and research.
“Graduates of technology courses are in demand in factories and industries,” he said.
