Zarate to Badoy: ‘Don’t divert issue from generals’ pork. Don’t us’

Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Zarate on Friday said Communications Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy’s challenge to the Makabayan bloc to denounce the communist leadership was just a desperate ploy to divert from the issue of the “humongous generals’ pork” in the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

“She is vainly trying to extricate herself from the morass she’s now deeply buried with her terrorist withchunting,” the Makabayan lawmaker said.

“Hers is a farcical dare and a classic fascist trick of placing the burden instead to us whom she publicly accused of being terrorists to prove our innocence. Don’t us, Badoy,” Zarate said in response to Badoy’s statement saying she would only step down from her post if the Makabayan lawmakers publicly condemned the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

“Make your accusations under oath, but, make no mistake about it because you will be made accountable by your malicious accusations. Your desperation is now apparent just to divert the issue from the more than P19 billion generals’ pork,” he said.

“Also, for the record, I am not a member of the CPP nor of the NPA,” Zarate said.

“This squid tactic has been used several times by hawks and fascists to deflect valid issues like human rights violations, corruption, and now, pork barrel in times of pandemic and crisis,” he added.

“Apparently, Badoy and her ilk are arrogant and emboldened in their terrorist-tagging because it has become a policy ex cathedra of the Duterte administration. Despite denials, terrorist-tagging or vilification against the opposition obviously is widely being practiced,” he said.
