Filipinos deserve nothing but the best vaccine to fight the new coronavirus disease, according to Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri.
In a latest post on Facebook, Zubiri laid down four concerns, including safety and efficacy, that should addressed in purchasing coronavirus vaccines.
“There are four major concerns that should be considered in choosing a vaccine: safety, efficacy rate, cost efficiency, and roll out,” he said.
“It’s the health of the Filipino people on the line. We deserve the best vaccine. Let’s keep these four concerns in mind,” he said.
On safety concerns, Zubiri said the vaccine must pass all trials and must be approved by international standards.
He also said Filipinos deserve more than a 50 percent efficacy rate.
On cost efficiency of the COVID vaccines, Zubiri said public funds must be used wisely. He also called for transparency in the vaccine procurement.
“How much exactly is the vaccine per dose and is it worth it, when other brands being used in the US and UK are 50-75% cheaper,” he said.
He also wanted to know how the government will handle the logistics and distribution of the COVID vaccines. He said the rollout must be “quick and wide as possible” to prevent more infections and deaths.
“Daily death rate of 100 must be stopped and every day we delay the vaccine, is another day of preventable Filipino deaths,” he said.
